How Oddle Terminal Found S$1.29M Hiding in One Restaurant Group's Payment Data

Most payment terminals treat a five-year regular exactly like a first-time walk-in. Across 180,638 transactions at one Singapore restaurant group, Oddle Terminal data showed repeat customers were just 16% of paying parties but 32% of revenue, and that 5,454 regulars had gone quiet, worth S$1.29M in already-earned value. Here's what the group found, and what they did about it.

Ask any restaurant manager who their most loyal customer is, and you'll usually get a shrug. Most payment terminals can't help either, they process the tap and move on, the same for a first time visitor as a regular of five years.

An Oddle Terminal doesn't stop there. Every card carries a signature, and Oddle Terminal reads it: who's paying, whether they've been here before, and how often. No sign up, no app, no effort from the customer at all.

One restaurant group found their most loyal customer this way. 52 visits. S$4,105 spent. Never signed up for anything. The restaurant only knew because the card kept coming back, and the terminal kept recognising it.

At a glance

Here's the shape of what we found.

What we analysed: transaction data from one restaurant group across three outlets, 180,638 card payments, 138,809 paying parties, S$11.6 million in tracked revenue.

What we found

  1. Regulars are rare, but they're not small. Only 16 in 100 paying parties were repeat customers, yet that group carried 32% of all revenue.
  2. "Gone" customers often aren't gone. 1 in 3 return visits happened after 90+ days of silence, customers quietly coming back on their own.
  3. There's a real list of real people worth reaching. 5,454 regulars had gone quiet for 90+ days, a group worth S$236 each on average.
  4. A predictable rhythm. Regulars return every ~22 days on average.

What they did about it:

  • Made regulars the priority. Treated the top 16% as the group worth protecting, not an afterthought.
  • Timed the win back nudge. Reached out around day 45 to 60, worth an estimated S$13,000 to S$15,000 a month.
  • Turned the list into outreach. The 5,454 quiet regulars became a real target, worth roughly S$1.29 million in proven value.
  • Built an early warning system. Flagged regulars as soon as they passed the 22 day mark, worth an estimated 1,600 extra visits a year.

The point isn't the technology, it's the blind spot it fixes

None of this needed new hardware, a new app, or convincing customers to sign up for anything. The information was already sitting in every transaction, unused, on any terminal that only processes payment.

The restaurants pulling ahead right now aren't necessarily spending more on marketing. They're just using a terminal that pays attention to more than the transaction.
